On July 17th Honey Space hosted its first annual benefit auction. The invitation read "[...] a yard sale-style silent auction of art & junk [...]". Each participating artist was assigned an equal amount of wall space to install art work and junk brought from home; one of the pieces of junk for sale included the catalogue of last summer's NEST by Dash Snow and Dan Colen at Deitch Projects.

Among the participating artists were Japanese sculptor Midori Harima and graffiti artist SWOON (rumor has it that MoMA just acquired an impressive amount of works from her...).

Honey Space has already been featured in the arts section of the New York Times. It is an independent exhibition space started this year by artist Tom Beale. "I originally started using this space to produce and show my own work." Beale continued: "but my body of work takes around nine months to finish; so I decided to start using the space as an autonomous space to publicly showcase other artists that I like. I have no interest in running an exhibition. That's why each show is installed in a manner that doesn't require anyone's physical presence during the opening hours. The only attention the space needs is the daily opening and closing of the metal security gates," he explained as DJ Darya Zhuk continued spinning quasi 1970s-porn tunes.

Honey Space is located on the West Side Highway between W 21 St & W 22 St, New York.
