Swiss-American painter Madeleine Paternot draws her imagery from a variety of sources such as Japanese anime, the female figure, and vintage furniture to create intimate portraits which emphasize the purity, simplicity, and intimacy experienced by women in everyday situations. Exhibiting her nomadic nature and study of cultural traditions, Madeleine’s meditative paintings evoke a raw sensuality usually presented as an installation with real furniture. By drawing inspiration from exotic discoveries, she creates artworks which brilliantly harmonize emotive colors and synthesize techniques reminiscent of the ancient art form of origami and her bohemian lifestyle. Often times, her canvases are constructed in multiple pieces to facilitate transportation from one city to the next.
Madeleine Paternot graduated from Vassar College with a BA in Anthropology. In 2009, she completed a residency at the School of Visual Arts. Her work has been shown throughout Europe and the United States including exhibitions at Espace L’Hommom (Paris), Space Gallery (London), Atelier Le PIc (Switzerland), One Egg Gallery (New York) and Gallery Benoit (Boston, MA). Madeleine’s artwork is part of the corporate art collections of The Europe Hotel (Ireland), Ritz-Carlton (Dubai), and Kings Park Hotel (Switzerland). Her canvases have appeared in prominent private collections in London (England), Paris (France), Milan (Italy), Lausanne (Switzerland), Verbier (Switzerland), Boston (MA, USA), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Killarney, Co. Kerry (Ireland) and New York. She is the co-Founder and President of the Verbier 3D Residency & Sculpture Park (Verbier, Switzerland).
